Steve’s first aviation encounter was with a V1 Flying Bomb during WW2. As a child he lived near to RAF Northolt and that sparked an interest in aircraft and a career in aviation.
In 1957 he started an engineering apprenticeship with BEA and after 19 years in avionics engineering on the ground at Heathrow he was offered the chance to train as a Flight Engineer on BOAC and then BA 747’s. He then spent another 18 years and over 10,000 hours in the seat just behind and to the right of the pilots.
